friday, june 5th @ streetlight records- s bascom ave, San Jose, CA

june 5th

we wake up. joe and I went to naked lounge and introduced our body to the first caffine of the day. a couple hours pass and everyone wakes up. we put the house back together (clean up / re-setting up from the house show) and load the van. we left the house around 11:30 am to get to our 3 pm streetlight records show.

we show up at streetlight records in san jose and cliff releases a news break: “i’ve needed to pea for the last hour and a half”. he took a glorious bathroom break and we talked to the people running the show. peter and nick from coyote (san jose band we played with) came out and hung out. the record store was very very extensive and in most ways impressive in their selection and prices.

we ro - sham - bo’d oh apollo for who would pick the band order. chris beat me, so they decided to go first @ 3. they played. chris refused a mic and they played mostly chill songs, including bleach, arizona, and commonowl. chris rapped during commonowl.

we setup our stuff. we turned down abit from our normal ear melting volume. it was nice actually because the instrument balance was probably on of the best we’ve had. anyways, our set came off really clean. max didn’t need his bass slave, so that was cool. in the middle of our set i demolished my instrument cable for my pedal board. some random people in the store were watching and enjoying, which was cool. my new cabinet continued to woo me.

upon ending our set, loading out and in to the van we continued to what i would call the main event: burritozilla burritos from iguana’s. these burritos are five pounds each, longer than your arm and about as fat as a softball. cliff and i challenged matt / max a & max b / chris. we won. it was good. we ate far far too much.

after that excursion we headed down to santa cruz. we arrived at the place we were gonna stay and immediately looked for a court to play basketball at. we played FMFT vs OH APOLLO (and their broz) and we won by 1 point. it was 5 on 5. after the exertion spree we walked back to the van and proceeded to safe way where we got some supplies (juice, crazy glue, batteries, kool aid singles, members mark). after that we were going to to go downtown and try to jump on a show, but we ended up at this coffee place called the abby. two nice girls helped cliff out with some coffee even though it was closed. they told us about a pancake breakfast they were having the next day and we were very excited about the prospect. after coffee was consumed, we headed down to the beach on the left of the boardwalk where we talked, bbq’d, relaxed, and had fun.

we came back to the house we were staying at and the plannings for a get together were in place. we hung out, had a semi - crazy night, and went to sleep.

i’m going to take a small break then write about our next day.

thursday, june 4th @ jeff/cliff's place - 2710 v st, Sacramento, CA

So this is the first day of our weekend stint. We should start with last night.

So yesterday all of Oh Apollo showed up and I taught them how to screenprint. Couple hours later, they had about 15 - 18 done. haha.

We woke up this morning and went to Peets Coffee on J & 37th. After that we played Halo for awhile, and setup the house for the show that we were having in the night. After we got all setup, we just hung out until people showed up.

First band up was Olive Drive. It was pretty excellent, despite all their technical difficulties. Ambrosia Caprice played next and we’re very excellent. After them Oh Apollo played. We sang Arizona and Commonowl.

After them, we played. The set went very well. It’s one the only times we’ve played and not had technical problems. Steven (Ambrosia Caprice) joined us during “Cut Ear To Ear” (on our next release). It was great. Lots of sound. I tested out my 1960’s oversized bassman 2x12. It was legit. There was alot of people watching us it seemed like, which is awesome (for once). I think we may have played really loud. haha.

Julie played last and enchanted us all with her beautiful voice. We all sat in a circle around her.

Thank you to all the people who came out and made the night one to remember.

San Jose tomorrow! Burritozilla!

Jeff

News and What Not

As of about two weeks ago, Julie has not an active member of Find Me Fighting Them. For the sake of not having to repeat this a million different times to a million different people I am going try to be as candid about her reasons for leaving and our plans for the future as possible.

Imagine for a second you are Julie. You are absurdly busy all the time with work, friends, etc. Etc. Now to top that off you have two simultaneous projects you are working on. Oh and you are also ridiculous talented. On one hand, you are in a band with four sweaty guys who’s main hobbies include making dick jokes and eating at Lyon’s, and on the other hand, you are working on a full length with the owner of The Hanger Studios and Tape Op magazine producing the solo materiel that you’ve spent a couple years of your life working on. Find Me Fighting Them practices every day and you need to record every day. So which one would you choose?

We all support Julie’s decision, and I know can speak for everyone when I say that we all love her as a friend and harbor zero ill will towards her. Will we do stuff with her in the future? Probably not, but anything is possible right?

For a brief moment we had entertained the possibility of finding another girl to replace Julie, this posed a bunch of issues. A list!

-We all really like Julie’s voice, anyone we found to replace her would be unfairly compared against Julie.
-We practice almost every single day.
-Do you know any girls that sing, play keyboard, and play drums? In Sacramento? Didn’t think so.

So instead of spending months trying out girls only to probably not be able to actually find a replacement, our friend is Joe going to be covering the drum parts Julie played in our old songs and playing third guitar parts on most of the new ones.

If you’ve followed our band for any period of time, you know that every single time we’ve had a member change has been a paradigm shift in regards style of music. This time around we are really trying to resist this. We are happy with the direction our music is going in, and I think if you’ve seen us live in recent months you can imagine how having another guitarist would only serve to enhances what we we’ve been trying to accomplish.

I have to admit at first I was kind of unsure if we were going to be able to make the vocals on our newer songs sound as good as they did on the last EP without Julie, but upon hearing what Jeff has recorded so far I feel completely confident that the vocals on this stuff sounds as good as, if not better than anything we’ve done in the past. I think Jeff has really stepped up to the plate.

Oh, our new EP is going to be called “Throw Away Your Relics”.

weekend of the 16th - 19th

day one: thurs, april 16th @ aubergines in sebastopol w/ loom and a district of evolution

okay. so we show up pretty late (about 7:45) & everyone is already there (loom, a district of evolution & tahitian ghost) we switched places a bunch and ended up playing last. so, we’re setting up and tahtian ghost played (so fucking good) after them, a district of evolution played (also really fucking good) then loom (jaw drop).

so on this day, I (jeff) had consumed nothing but coffee, corona light & guacamole chips. so when we played, i was pretty fidgety.

anyways, we played after loom. we had some large tuning problems during the begining of the set, but after the second song it was pretty smooth sailing. we played our newest song for all you sebastopol kids and it seems to be liked. ps. next time touring bands are playing, don’t fucking leave then come back! you missed a great show. also, thanks hez, gabe & joejoe for the help in our 4th song!!

day two: friday @ the branch st warehouse in sac w/ loom and a district of evolution

we played first. there were like 10 people. it was fun. that garage/room/warehouse sounded really excellent. other than that, nothing really happened other than the awesomeness of loom and district.

day three: sunday @ rockzilla w/ litany for the wale, ove the garden and the helen kellers

we showed up and i did some rock climbing. we went to the worst subway on the planet then came back and setup. played second for a good 30 people? either way alot of you bought shirts and CDs. thank you, now we can play more shows and make more records. anyways, we had a pretty good set minus the fact that the PA wasn’t being friendly.

one more note about the show: litany for the whale was really good. these guys showed up with full stacks & bass heads so they could be louder than deep purple.

Tonight @ Java Lounge

recap:

• took forever to setup
• matt put a dent in his skip’s rental guitar
• my ankle, pedals, and some guitar strings broke
• new dent on my 950 dollar jazzmaster =)
• sorry about being braindead for a second in the first song (you know what I’m talking about)

so. i just want you take a minute, and pat yourself on the back. apparently, we brought the most people to the java lounge and everyone came through and donated & bought drinks. take another minute to pat your own back for buying our merch so we could donate to the j-lounge.

ryan and his bro came out and filmed the whole ordeal. they rule. you will be seeing video footage soon.

see you on april 4th, java lounge.
